What to Check When Buying a Used Static Caravan
Whether you view on our yard or elsewhere, it helps to know what to look for. Here is a quick checklist to take to any viewing.
Chassis and underside
Look for heavy rust on the chassis, axles and jacking points. Surface rust is normal; flaking or holed steel is not.
Roof and walls
Check the roof and cladding for dents, splits or patched areas, and look inside for staining on ceilings and around windows.
Damp and floors
Soft spots in the floor, a musty smell or bubbling wallpaper can point to damp. Press on floors near doors, the shower and the toilet.
Windows and heating
Double glazing and central heating make a big difference to comfort and running costs, especially if you plan to use it in winter.
Gas, water and electrics
Have appliances, gas and electrics checked by a qualified engineer before you use the caravan. Ask what was drained down for winter.
Size and access
Measure your plot and the route in. A caravan needs level ground and access for a large delivery vehicle.
